cPanel + ASSP

I was looking in a couple of Spam-related plugins for WHM/cPanel in the summer of 2010.  After some digging and trial runs I decided to buy a licence of “ASSP Deluxe”, which is essentially an integration script + UI for WHM wrapped around the opensource scripts in the ASSP package (Anti Spam SMTP Proxy). So [...]

Supernatural

Yes, the SciFi blogging goes on! One of the latest additions to my RSS download queue (he he he..) is Supernatural. I watched all seasons over the past 2 months. Actually, Aasemoon suggested this one to me quite a while ago but I was a bit worried about the whole “theme” of ghosts, demons and [...]

Stargate Universe

I enjoyed Stargate so far, SG1, the direct-to-DVD movies, Atlantis etc. So I had high hopes for Universe. Now that the thing is running for a rather long time already, I can say: It’s .. well .. it’s not really what I expected. :-P First of all, what’s going on with all that “Beverly Hills [...]

Moving on

This blog has become rather unuseful. I just don’t blog much anymore due to the lack of time which I’m currently undergoing. Those past days were an exception to the rule, but that was because I scheduled the publishing of articles.. :-P I am gonna move away from a “Blog Site” back to a “normal” [...]

The Art of Pragmatism

The web (or let’s say, the technology underneath the hood) is once again facing an evolutionary step towards becoming more userfriendly for both developers and consumers. I put big hopes into CSS3/HTML5 and a more streamlined production process for creating websites due to less workarounds. With more and more websites haveing heavy usage of ajaxified [...]

Understanding Clients

Dear clients, I don’t mean to insult you or rant about our sometimes tense relationships. We’re all “just” humans, with our very own personal goals and our very own approaches to problem solving. But try to look at it from our perspective, too. I know, you pay the bill so you are the boss. But [...]

Winter Impaired

This is why I don’t like winter: At some point half way through it, I start to get the winter-blues really hard. Like now. I’m constantly tired, no matter how much coffee I drink, no matter how much I sleep. I usually have a nap sometime in the late afternoon to get back to work [...]

Nodes: Inserting Images

While Drupal provides a lot of extensions and gimmicks, one of the big downsides currently is image handling. Basic image handling, like inserting images into a node’s body field are quite the task to achieve – there’s plenty of approaches but almost all fail at some point. Mostly because of bugs or lack of basic [...]

Well done.

I don’t get around writing down some thoughts about this topic. The law which was passed last week in switzerland is in fact absolutely ridiculous. It boils down to this: The campaign of the SVP was building upon fear. It didn’t really matter wether it would have been a law to prohibit anyone from building [...]

SGU: Stargate Universe

It was too bad that SG Atlantis was cancelled. I got to really like the plot and the characters. But shortly after, we are now blessed with it’s “offspring” – which has not much to do with it’s parents, honestly. I like the change of direction they introduced with the new series. Before, every character [...]

GUI shame: Touchpanels

I’m currently doing a lot of design-work for high-end touchpanels. One should expect that a touchpanel in the price range of around 3’000$ to 5’000$ each should be able to render truetype fonts smoothly. Bad luck: AMX doesn’t even support OpenType fonts to date and looks as bas as Crestron-rendered fonts. This is really disappointing. [...]

Drupal: WYSIWY(should)G

A rather annoying problem with Drupal is the lack of a *really* standard WYSIWYG interface. WordPress made the example and included TinyMCE as a default which is expandable with a couple of plugins (“TinyMCE Advanced”). Putting together a solution which also allows users to easily upload and include pictures into article texts with Drupal took me [...]

Fileserver: NAS or not, that’s …

…the question. The amount of data I have around here isn’t the problem. I’ve plenty of space left. The thing which makes me worry is the reliability of my space. I’m currently running 2 LaCie Harddrives with a total of 1.5TB space on my iMac’s FW800 port. 500GB for my iMac’s TimeMachine, 1TB for the [...]

My Drupal Arsenal

I use the following plugins on every base installation, since it covers (most) of my client’s needs. The * indicates, that this is a plugin which is active on basically every installation. Also, I only run “real” CRON tasks via cPanel options – no virtual CRON triggers. Additionally, I have a test installation which is [...]

Transition over

Ok, this isn’t exactly a new design. I just didn’t feel like kicking it already. Also, some people (*hint* you know who you are..) begged me like mad to keep this one. So I ended up converting my existing design to a “Thematic” child-theme. I don’t use most of the supplied CSS, except for the [...]
