Movie: The Oil Crash

This documentary is all about oil, more precisely about how much we could have left, why oil is so important for our society and that we’re basically wasting it.

Well, nothing new, so far, is it? – Anyhow, watching the movie leaves you with eyes wide open. The stories about peak oil are going around for quite a while now, basically everybody knows it’s gonna be over at some point. You know, what leaves me with a questioning look on my face is the fact that.. altho we know it, we still behave like nothing will ever change. We know how dependant we are on oil, yet we go on, day by day, using it – not questioning anything. Nobody is going to stop before the disaster is happening. And call me pessimistic, but I think there will be a huge disaster. Somewhen in the next 5 to 10 years.

Did you notice how high the petroleum prices have been last year? – That was only a very very small glimpse at what’s coming right at us. And the thing about alternative energies.. Yeah, they’re there but .. they aren’t gonna replace oil completely, not by any means. You don’t need to study economics to build this picture in your head. The thing about solar/hydrogen/wind and water energy only deals with the power issue, while crude oil is – as you might know already by now – the ressource for a loooot more things we got used to, too well, in the past century.

The ironic part is .. that when the oil-era is going to be over, some of the environmental problems are going to solve themselves, basically. But you know .. I’m sure that humans find another way to waste what they were given. :)

well, you’ve inhaled well the message between the lines while watching the movie dude :) our world is still an economic one, the least factor of all equations is a monetary one. some people invest in sustainable energies, maybe because of panic, maybe because of ecology but certainly because they can afford. like in woyzeck: for the spoiled(rich) , it’s easy to be good. Economy, on the other hand, does its part too: when the oil price is raising, sustainable eneriges do too… it’s a big network and the least small branch gets its share – in other words: if you are digging the problem at its front, it f#cks you from behind *sorry*. but the disaster will come and we will have to search for solutions and we will find them but they wont be perfect – i’m looking forward to it! but hey, at the end we’re talking about, that’s a first change!

that’s true. on a sidenote, there was an article in a newspaper today that the start of summer holidays in the united states of A causes the oil price to go up by a few percent because everybody is driving with their car to a holiday destination. if *HOLIDAYS* cause the oil price to go up, imagine what friggin *THE BARREL IS EMPTY* means! this is frightening, by all means!

i guess it’s not necessary anymore to get a driver’s licence unless you win the lottery. =)

but there is also one good thing about peak oil: with empty barrels, the ecological problem will be solved automatically… a cynical position, i admit. however, i guess that there will be some – let’s say it nicely – dissonance between different players (nations) about the last barrel. this is the bad thing. i wonder, why holliwood has not taken account of the phenomena yet. it would be interesting to see, how the world *could* be without oil… but wait, there is a allready a movie about the issue: mad max. umh, the future is bright!
