guild wars

i encountered a strange boredom playing world of warcraft last friday, so i thought “why not give something else a try to waste my time with?” – no, i didn’t thought about starting a real life. i remembered sweeper telling me about guild wars, another mmorpg.

my first impression was really good. coming from a somewhat cartoon like world of warcraft, i was very impressed by the graphics. also, the gameplay itself is a lot more player oriented than it is in world of warcraft. quest goals are on a map, it’s easier to find something specific.

you start out in a blooming world, basically mid-age style. after following the primary quest line for 2-3 hours there’s a cutscene and you re-enter the world – darkness has overcome the once beautiful town you started in and basically, you’re supposed to kick some ass! :)

as i mentioned, there’s the primary quest storyline. furthermore, there are dozens of small quests surrounding them which aren’t necessary to proceed in the games’ story. and as you go on, you join some players-guilds, look for stuff to make money with and so on ..

another big plus is the financial aspect: unless like eve online, world of warcraft, anarchy online etc, you only pay *once* – all other games mentioned before require you to pay monthly fees, which is – taking the primary licence costs into account – bloody exepnsive over a period of a year or two.

all in all, i’m still a gamer and i guess i will always be. blame me .. ;)
